Posters of The City of Winnipeg

Vacation Destinations as viewed from Air and Space.

Near the geographic centre of Canada lies the City of Winnipeg. Surrounded by prairie farmlands, Winnipeg is the cultural centre of Manitoba. For thousands of years Winnipeg has been known as a meeting place which is still true today. Follow the meandering Red River as it flows north through the city to be met by the Assiniboine River at the Forks. Can you guess why many of the agricultural fields adjacent to the rivers are long and narrow as opposed to square?

City of Winnipeg

This 20" x 22.5" image is filled with detail thanks to the Landsat 7 Satellite that collected the data. This image is called a false colour enhancement which really highlights the subtle features in agricultural lands while also providing sharp contrasts between land and water. The variety of crops and land covers in the agricultural areas are depicted as different colours due to the intensities of different wavelengths of light reflected off the fields. The Red and Assiniboine Rivers appear blue due to the sediments within the water columns reflecting red visible light (which in this colour combination is depicted as blue).
