A Virtual Tour of The National Capital Region

Downtown Ottawa-Hull

In this July 3rd view of the downtown core we can see a lot of different features. The more built up areas, with less vegetation appear in shades of purple. Dried, unwatered lawns appear in rusty shades (similar to the airport image) while treed areas are green. The curved feature in the middle of the river is a small dam on the E.B.Eddy plant site used to generate power for the facility. Water flowing through spill ways and tumbling over rocks appears as bright blue. As we move downstream we pass by Victoria Island and then Parliament Hill to our right and the Canadian Museum of Civilization to our left. Just past Parliament Hill the Rideau Canal enters into the Ottawa River and past that, Nepean Point with the outdoor Astrolabe Theatre. Even from space we notice the docks along the Hull Marina. Near the top of the image, the Rideau River enters into the Ottawa. Ottawa's City Hall is located on Green Islands just upstream from the Rideau Falls.

Downtown Ottawa-Hull

After all I've seen, I think I'll head off to the Market for something tasty to eat, Beavertails anyone? All this touring has made me somewhat thirsty, maybe a beverage or two will help before I go off to tour some more famous Canadian landmarks. I hope you enjoyed our little tour of the National Capital Region. You know, there's so much to see and do you'll have to come and take a look for yourself. See you soon!
