Posters of Winnipeg and the Beaches

Vacation Destinations as viewed from Air and Space.

At the geographic centre of Canada, southern Manitoba possesses diverse cultural and physiographic attributes. This image map depicts the City of Winnipeg surrounded by prairie communities and agricultural lands. Towards the north farmlands give way to undeveloped wooded terrain, with lakes and marshlands still reflecting the effects of past glaciations. From the City of Winnipeg, the Red River flows north into Lake Winnipeg. Almost any Manitoban can tell you a tale or two experienced on or around the lake and most will be of the beautiful beaches found around the southern basin.

Winnipeg and the Beaches

This 18" x 26" image is filled with detail thanks to the Landsat 7 Satellite that collected the data. This image is called a false colour enhancement which really highlights the subtle features in agricultural lands while also providing sharp contrasts between land and water. The variety of crops and land covers in the agricultural areas are depicted as different colours due to the intensities of different wavelengths of light reflected off the terrain. The Lake Winnipeg's southern basin and, the Red and Assiniboine Rivers appear blue due to the sediments within the water columns reflecting red visible light (which in this colour combination is depicted as blue).
